A Mind by the Water

July 31, 2026

There have been many times in my life when I thought I needed to go somewhere extraordinary to understand myself.

Instead, most of the answers found me in ordinary places.

On long drives home from work.

While sitting beside a quiet lake with a fishing rod in my hand.

Walking a trail with no destination other than the next bend.

Reading a book that stayed with me long after I had forgotten its plot.

Talking with my wife about our future while trying to build a life in a country we now call home.

Life rarely changes all at once. It changes in small moments that almost go unnoticed. A conversation. A sunrise. A page in a book. Catching your first fish. Paying off a little more debt than last month. Realizing your parents were simply doing their best. Looking back one day and noticing that you’ve become someone slightly different without ever deciding to.

For a long time I kept journals that no one else would read. They helped me think, but eventually I realized something.

Many of the questions I write about are not uniquely mine.

How do we become better people without pretending to have everything figured out?

How do we stay kind while setting boundaries?

How do we find meaning in ordinary days?

How do we balance responsibility with the desire to simply sit beside the water and watch the evening arrive?

This website is my attempt to explore those questions in public.

It isn’t a guide.

It isn’t a collection of life lessons.

It’s simply a record of one person trying to pay attention.

You’ll find stories from camping trips and fishing mornings. Notes from books that refuse to leave my mind. Reflections on work, family, money, and the quiet process of growing older.

Some posts will end with answers.

Most probably won’t.

I chose the name Aquamens because it reflects what I hope this place becomes.

A mind by the water.

A place to slow down.

A place to notice.

A place to leave a few footprints for anyone walking a similar trail.

Welcome. I’m glad you found your way here.
